Getting to Ratanui Lodge
Golden Bay is tucked into the northwest corner of the South Island. The only land route to this pristine seaside valley is Highway 60 from Nelson, over the Takaka Hill. It’s one way in, one way out; and that adds to the unspoilt beauty and charm of the Bay. The drive over the Takaka Hill is dramatically scenic and occasionally exposed, with 365 deviations of centre and breathtaking views both over the Abel Tasman National Park region and over the Takaka River Valley and Kahurangi Mountain Ranges. Take your time going over the Hill, give way to locals that know every corner of the road and are probably driving it faster than you are, and enjoy the views.
